Inês holds an MSc and BSc in Biological Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Universidade de Lisboa. Her journey into the world of algae began in 2021 with a summer internship at ALGAplus, where she gained hands-on experience in macroalgae quality control. In 2023, she transitioned to microalgae during an internship at GreenCoLab, focusing on strain improvement. For her Master’s thesis in 2024, Inês joined the Bioprocess Engineering group at Wageningen University & Research in the Netherlands. Her research, “Freshwater Microalgae Strain Selection for Increased Triacylglycerol and Cholesterol Production,” evaluated the growth and lipid production potential of three microalgal species—Tetradesmus obliquus, Neochloris oleoabundans, and Chromochloris zofingiensis—to identify the most suitable strain for large-scale production. In 2025, she joined GreenCoLab as a strain improvement technician, further advancing her expertise in microalgae biotechnology.
