Ana Teresa Gonçalves
Animal Nutrition Group Leader
About me
Ana is a Marine and Fisheries Biologist from the University of Algarve with an MSc and PhD in Aquatic Biosciences from Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology in Japan. She is currently the Animal Nutrition working group leader at the GreenCoLab and is a Senior Researcher at SPAROS, one of our founder associate companies. Formerly, she was an Associate Researcher in nutrigenomics and functional nutrition at the Interdisciplinary Center for Aquaculture Research (INCAR) in Chile. Over the last 15 years, Ana has focused on evaluating functional ingredients for fish gut health and microbiome modulation for animal performance improvement. With a specialization in nutrigenomics, Ana has over 35 publications in peer-reviewed journals, has delivered over 30 oral presentations in international conferences, and has been a Principal Investigator in several projects in Japan, Chile, and Portugal at national and international levels. At the GreenCoLab, together with the working group’s team, Ana has implemented and optimized in vitro strategies to assess fish and shrimp’s intestinal responses to algae-derived functional ingredients, providing novel information towards species-specific precision functional nutrition, and has built up a robust biomarker panel to assess gut health in all aquaculture commercial species.
