It is a great pleasure to welcome: Merve Konucu. Merve has joined GreenCoLab through the Erasmus+ exchange student program, where she will be working on optimising biomass harvesting and separation of target compounds using a novel biorefinery approach.
Merve holds a B.Sc. in Fisheries and Aquaculture Engineering and a M.Sc. in Biotechnology from Mersin University (Turkey). Within the scope of her master thesis, she studied phytoplankton identification and isolation from the northeastern Mediterranean Sea. She is currently a PhD student, at Mersin University, where back in 2019 she had her first internship in the algal molecular analysis field at Szczecin University (Poland) and then in 2020 she participated in the ALG-AD project at Ghent University (Belgium). For this later project, she worked on harvesting microalgae by flocculation method and characterization of microalgal biomass. She is currently doing her second internship at GreenCoLab’s partner Necton.
