The BEAP-MAR  project united experts and leading organizations in the Algarve to explore the vast opportunities the oceans provide for sustainable innovation. The event was notable for promoting the blue bioeconomy, bringing together influential voices to share knowledge, strengthen collaborations, and pave the way for a more sustainable future.
Among the main speakers, Hugo Pereira , director of GreenCoLab, presented the GreenCoLab institution, highlighting the essential role of “Building Bridges between Academia and Industry in Algae Biotechnology”. His approach focused on the importance of harnessing the potential of algae and other marine resources to create innovative and sustainable solutions. The event also included presentations by representatives of organizations such as the CCDR Algarve, the University of Santiago de Compostela, SPAROS, Lda, and the Centro de Ciências do Mar (CCMAR).
Ways of expanding the sustainable exploitation of marine organisms that are little used commercially, such as emerging algae, marine fungi, and sponges, were discussed, reinforcing the role of science and technology in advancing the blue bioeconomy.
The initiative reinforces the BEAP-MAR Project’s commitment to positioning the Algarve as a hub of innovation in the maritime sector, showing how collaboration between different sectors can unlock the untapped potential of the oceans.
