Last October, around 70 first-year students from the Marine Biology course at the University of Algarve, Gambelas Campus, had the opportunity to visit the GreenCoLab laboratories, where they were able to experience in practice the world of microalgae and their various biotechnological and environmental applications.
During the visit, the students observed experiments in progress and attended a presentation of the BioBanco, a collection of microalgae samples with high potential for developing new sustainable solutions. The students also took part in an introductory presentation about GreenCoLab, which explained the laboratory’s main areas of activity and research, including the role of microalgae in biotechnology and environmental preservation.
The visit was part of a program made by GreenCoLab that encourages students to learn about science. The goal is to get students interested in research and new ideas.
“The visit broadened our view of the role of microalgae, something we had only known in theory,” said one of the students.
The initiative enhanced the collaboration between academia and applied research, furnishing a distinctive perspective on the contribution of microalgae to a more sustainable future.
